Sunday, July 26, 9:00 p.m. – The Surfer (2024)
Nicolas Cage delivers one of his most intense performances in this mesmerizing, sun-drenched psychological thriller from director Lorcan Finnegan. The story follows an unnamed man who returns to the idyllic beach of his childhood to surf with his son, but is met by a hostile local gang whose motto is “You don’t live here, you don’t surf here.” Humiliated and trapped in an escalating power struggle, he is slowly pushed to his absolute breaking point.
With the sweltering heat of an Australian summer, a distorted sense of reality, and Cage at the top of his game, the film balances between psychological drama and a surreal nightmare. It’s not a movie about surfing, but about men, territory, and how far one is willing to go to reclaim what has been lost. Perfect for a warm summer evening when the mood needs to shift from relaxed to unsettling.
